According to statistics, in Ho Chi Minh City alone, the garment–fashion industry needs up to 27,000 workers each year, while the supply of technicians, engineers, and designers meets only a small portion of that demand. In the spinning–weaving sector, the annual recruitment need ranges from 300 to 400 engineers, yet the number of graduates currently meets less than 10% of the requirement. This labor gap presents an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology (HCT) to affirm its pioneering role in training Garment and Fashion Technology closely aligned with industry practice, equipping students with solid knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience so they are ready to meet enterprise and labor market demands immediately.

Integrating education with industry practice
HCT offers training programs in Fiber–Textile Technology, Fashion Design, Fashion Garment, and Garment Technology through a flexible “dual-training” model that combines on-campus theory and basic practice with advanced internships at enterprises inside and outside Vinatex. This model helps students master professional knowledge, strengthen practical skills, and quickly adapt to modern production environments. The college commits that 100% of students will secure jobs in their trained fields, with many recruited even before graduation.
HCT has invested seriously in facilities, including multiple training workshops, laboratories, and specialized practice rooms that meet the industry standards and the employer expectations. Despite financial limitations, the college continues to prioritize infrastructure development as a long-term strategy to enhance training quality. Garment and Fashion Technology remains a flagship program, especially at Branch 2 in Trang Bom (Dong Nai).
Thanks to strong partnerships with enterprises such as Viet Tien, Nha Be, etc., students gain practical exposure and higher chances of employment upon graduation. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Hien emphasizes that the school’s goal is not merely to ensure students have jobs, but to ensure they work in the right field and are able to contribute immediately without requiring retraining — the true measure of HCT’s training quality.

Quality as a responsibility
Over nearly 50 years of development, HCT has always considered its lecturers the core force that shapes the college‘s reputation. Despite challenges related to facilities and student enrollment, the teaching staff has remained committed to the profession, maintaining teaching quality and continuously innovating, even when HCT expanded with a new campus in Trang Bom (Dong Nai).
Lecturers in the Fashion and Garment Technology Department serve not only as instructors but also as “master craftsmen,” guiding students through every practical step. Although the garment industry faces constant changes, teachers firmly believe that human qualities—skill, creativity, and a willingness to learn, are the core of the profession.
The department has strongly promoted digital transformation in training, integrating modern design and simulation software such as Gerber Accumark, Optitex, and Lectra into teaching. This allows students to familiarize themselves with contemporary design processes, save time and materials, and reduce the gap between learning and real-world production.
Students appreciate the training model that combines theory with hands-on practice, modern facilities and opportunities to intern at enterprises. Real-world exposure, participation in projects, and access to new technologies help them build responsibility, professional skills, industrial work habits, and the confidence to take on jobs immediately after graduation.
The dedication of the lecturers, from guiding students through mistakes to inspiring passion for the profession, serves as a powerful motivation for students to love their craft and strive to improve themselves every day.
In fulfilling the mission of training high-quality human resources for the Textile and Garment industry, the teaching staff not only impart technical skills but also guide students toward modern professional standards. With dedication and a spirit of innovation, lecturers nurture passion, spark creativity, and develop work discipline and professionalism in the new generation of workers. This is the core value that builds the reputation of Ho Chi Minh City College of Technology: placing training quality as the foundation, lecturers as the decisive factor, and students’ success as the highest measure of achievement.
